Spring Cleaning, Naturally

Caitlin S.

June 6th, 2013 · essential oils, Hanna Kroeger, Herbs for

Clearing winter dust from the house is a springtime tradition. Spring cleaning leaves you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the summer ahead.  While cleaning the house, we want to know that germs and buildup are getting cleared out, but we might not consider what we are putting into our home. Over the counter cleansers zap germs instantly, but their harsh chemicals leave you exposed to other toxins.

Child playing with cleaning suppliesMany over the counter cleansers attribute their cleaning properties to chemicals that may cause harm to your body. Over the counter air fresheners contain carcinogens, such as acetaldehyde. Other common ingredients include methyl pyrrolidone, butylphenyl methylpropional, ethyl acetate, and benzaldehyde, which are all known for being damaging to the immune system, irritants to the skin, eyes, and lungs, and may contribute to reproductive issues. Children and pets are at high risk for exposure. Avoid the toxins of commonly used products by skipping store bought and making your own!

Recover From Summer Cookout Overeating: Stomach Cleansing

Caitlin S.

May 31st, 2013 · Cleansing and Detox, Hanna Kroeger, Healthy Living, Herbs for

The last weekend in May marks the beginning of summer barbequing season. Longer days and warmer evenings bring us outside with friends, and while the extra sunlight may give us a boost of Vitamin D, exposure to air pollution and a seemingly endless supply of sweet summer drinks and potluck brownies will bog down the digestive system and leave the body full of toxins.

It is far too easy, on a Friday evening picnicking with friends, to have just a few too many barbecued ribs as they come off the grill, and a little too difficult to say no to a second (or even third) round of Aunt Becky’s famous cookies.  Poor diet choices can wreak havoc on our bodies, leaving behind toxins and waste. BarbecueOur digestive tract is a complex system made up of many organs that perform a plethora of jobs, from disposing of the pollutants that have plagued the body to making sure nutrients end up in the right places. Maintaining proper digestive tract health is an essential part of staying healthy this summer. [Read more →]

Rhodiola Rosea: The Adaptogenic Herb that Gives a Natural Brain Boost

Caitlin S.

May 23rd, 2013 · adaptogen, Hanna Kroeger, Herbs for

Adaptogens, used for thousands of years in the East as herbal remedies for a variety of ailments, are powerful herbs that are said to decrease stress levels. These herbal remedies are non-toxic, natural, and non-habit forming supplements that can boost your mood and create a state of balance within your body. Adaptogens are metabolic regulators that work with the brain to maintain homeostasis. Rhodiola Rosea is one of several adaptogens that has various benefits, from enhancing cognitive function to stimulating the immune system through the regulation of serotonin and dopamine precursors in the brain.

Rhodiola is an Herbal Serotonin Regulator

By heightening the transfer of the serotonin precursors in the human brain, Rhodiola rosea may enhance one’s ability to concentrate and prevent mental fatigue. In one study, 27 students, physicians, and scientists, aged 19-46 were given ten drops of Rhodiola rosea tincture once or twice daily for 2-3 weeks. In each person’s case, work quality improved. The herb is also said to prevent asthenia (mental fatigue and lower ability to work due to fatigue).  Benefits of Rhodiola rosea may be seen both in the short term and the long term. [Read more →]

Sara Beth

May 21st, 2013 · Hanna Kroeger, Herbs for

Without fungus, yeast, and mold our culinary delights would be void of cheese, bread, and mushrooms. We would have no beer, no healthy fermented vegetables or kombucha….my pantry would never be the same. While fungus plays a happy role in the foods we eat, the impact it can have on our health when it is overgrown in our bodies can be serious and is more prevalent than you may think.

It is estimated that over 90% of the Western population suffers from fungal infections.  There are numerous symptoms including depression, mood swings, food cravings, skin rashes, athlete’s foot, jock itch, diaper rash, cradle cap (in infants), thrush, exhaustion, memory loss, red and raised surfaces around nail cuticles, vaginal itching, yeast infection, ringworm, respiratory issues, asthma, eye, nose, sinus and throat irritation and even tumors.  People most susceptible to fungal infections are those who take antibiotics or steroids frequently, take birth control pills, have poor diets high in sugar and processed foods, people with heavy metal or chemical toxicity, obese people, and those with diseases that compromise the immune system. Protozoan Infections & How to Cleanse Them

Sara Beth

May 17th, 2013 · Cleansing and Detox

images[1]Protozoans encompass a large classification of parasites and are microscopic in size. Because they are found in almost every kind of soil environment, from peat bogs to arid desert sands, and can be found in the deep seas of tropic regions as well as the frigid waters of the Arctic the chances of exposure are high. Some species of protozoa are a natural part of the microbial flora of animals, living in the gut of insects and mammals (including humans), though there are some that can cause disease and illness in our bodies. The blood of healthy people contains antibodies against these organisms but in certain susceptible individuals protozoans may migrate from the gastro-intestinal tract into the blood and then into the joints and other body tissues. What can you do to protect yourself? [Read more →]

Cleansing Parasites from Your System

Sara Beth

April 17th, 2013 · Cleansing and Detox

KRO-Hanna-pix-72rHanna taught extensively about parasites and how to address them in our bodies. We’ve compiled some of her best advice, direction, and knowledge of parasites in this post. Find this information and more in her books, Parasites the Enemy Within, God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Help One Another.

A parasite is an organism that derives its food, nutrition, and shelter by living in or on another organism. In biology the parasitic way of life is very common and humans may be a host to over 100 different types of parasites. Most people seem to think that a parasitic infection is uncommon, especially in North America, and prefer to not discuss parasites as it’s an unpleasant topic to consider. The truth of the matter is that parasites are prevalent, not restricted to third world countries, and there are many species that show no socioeconomic boundaries and can be found in all climates.
