Ideas to Celebrate HerbDay

Sara Beth

May 4th, 2012 · Herbs for

Maybe attending an event for HerbDay in your area isn’t possible but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy! Whether you want to spend time with friends, children, or just enjoy the day alone here are some ideas to celebrate HerbDay.

Educate on HerbDay

Celebrate HerbDay by learning more about your favorite herbs and their uses for healing.

Celebrate HerbDay by learning more about your favorite herbs and their uses for healing.

Did you know we have a glossary of herbs on our website? We include the description of the plant, common uses, and the history for nearly every ingredient in the products we sell. Curious which herbs have a laxative effect or which can be used for ornamentation? Our glossary is a great place to start!

We mentioned in our previous HerbDay blog that there will be a (free!) webinar from Mountain Rose Herbs about a summer first aid kit for kids and how to use herbs to create one. Sign up for that webinar here and take a look at our own first aid kit ideas in this recent post.

Visiting your local health food store on HerbDay and getting to know the friendly staff in the supplement department is another way to celebrate. Most stores offer in-store demonstrations or lectures to help educate their customers and HerbDay would be a great time to inquire! [Read more →]

Whether you find benefit in the use of herbs in foods, medicines, beauty products, crafts, or beverages there’s something to celebrate. To celebrate HerbDay and commemorate Hanna’s lifelong work we’d like to share an excerpt from her book Instant Herbal Locator

Why Do Herbs Heal

The courtroom was small and yet it was not crowded. The main occupants were the twelve jury men and women. The benches to the right were for the defendant and the benches to the left were for the plaintiff.

The case was a trail against a successful and spiritual man—a man of great integrity, a healer, a chiropractor, a patriot, a minister, and most of all, the best herbalist I have ever found.

After lunch it was my turn to testify for the healer’s works. For weeks I had prepared for possible questions, placing the questions in my scrapbook and finding answers which were short and precise so that not much time would be taken.

The first hour went by . . . I had passed the tricks and trickery questions of the DA along with his cunning remarks and humiliations, when out of the blue sky this gentlemen asks, “And why do these herbs heal?” [Read more →]

Powerful Adaptogens – Herbs for Whole Body Health

Sara Beth

May 2nd, 2012 · adaptogen, Anti-aging, Antioxidant

In the world of herbal remedies there are several choices for ailments; feverfew for migraines, turmeric for inflammation, or bilberry for eye support, for example. Having a this-for-that approach to herbal medications is a great concept but also presents some of us with skepticism for adaptogens which enhance the body’s overall function, not a specific condition or ailment. Powerful adaptogens, or “longevity herbs” as they are referred to in the East, have been used for thousands of years to maintain the body’s vitality and are catching on in the West. Want to support your body’s immune system and organ function, improve stamina, recover from illness quicker, address mood and sleep disorders, or help cut the stress from your life? Enter some of our favorite adaptogens. [Read more →]

Guest Blog Post from the Mesothelioma Center

Sara Beth

April 24th, 2012 · Healthy Living, Homeopathy

We’re happy to share this guest post from the Mesothelioma Center outlining alternative medicines for easing cancer symptoms, natural-cancer fighting remedies, and resources you and your loved ones can use to learn more about asbestos and Mesothelioma.

Alternative Medicines Easing Cancer Symptoms

Alternatives to cancer medications include natural remedies, homeopathics, and herbs

Alternatives to cancer medications include natural remedies, homeopathics, and herbs

More than 400,000 drugs are in the National Cancer Institute’s Developmental Therapeutics Program. Many of these medicines are designed either to combat cancer directly or relieve the symptoms associated with tumor growth.

However, many of these medicines also cause a number of side effects – some of which can be worse than the original symptom itself.

For mesothelioma patients, who must deal with a unique, highly symptomatic cancer, alternative medicines can often be used in place of these pharmaceuticals. While not regulated in the same way that FDA-sanctioned drugs are regulated, these medications have the potential to provide similar benefits against mesothelioma symptoms such as chest pain and dyspnea.
