How fast do you think your last blink was? Did you even notice you were doing it? Are you blinking even more now that we’re talking about it? As insignificant as your last blink seems, the rapid closing and opening of the eyelid is an essential function of the eye and your vision. The average blink lasts about a tenth of a second, but serves as a cleaning mechanism for the cornea and conjunctiva of the eye. By adding tears to your eyes’ surface, blinking keeps the eyes moist. The muscles that control the eye lid are stimulated by the central nervous system. They body blinks automatically; you don’t need to add it to your to do list. This is why staring contests can be so difficult!
Blinking is only one of numerous essential eye functions. An extremely complex system, the human eye needs to be constantly nourished to maintain proper function. Nourishment is carried to the eye by blood; good nutrition is vital to eye function. [Read more →]

“Trending” is the word we use to describe hot topics that come and go over time. Last Friday, the world couldn’t get enough of “The Wolverine,” and the comic star became the world’s number one search term. The Wolverine hadn’t received so much hype since 2009, when his last movie came out. Other topics are consistently popular and can be called iconic rather than “trendy”. These icons achieve high levels of attention year after year. Icons are representative of our culture because they display what is on the minds of our population. The term “diabetes” has occupied a seat on Google’s top health related searches since Google Trends was invented. The high number of citizens diagnosed with the disease has made it an endemic and a hot topic around the world. In fact, topics related to diabetes are globally searched almost five times more than The Wolverine on a monthly basis (sorry, buddy!).

Think you’re fast? Mats Valk solved the 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube in 5.55 seconds in March of 2013, setting a new world record. If hearing that makes you suddenly doubt your wit, you’re not alone. A perfect brain teaser, the Rubik’s Cube has been the world’s top selling puzzle game since 2009, and odds are that most of those cubes remain unsolved. The good news is, like the rest of the body, the brain is an organ that prospers and grows under the right conditions. It will also deteriorate if it does not receive care and exercise. What are the best ways to take care of your brain? Little games and tricks will give it daily exercise, and eating right will make sure it receives the nutrients it needs. Taking supplements that support your brain will ward off deterioration and help prevent serious problems in the future, like Alzheimer’s.
Test your brain today! Try one of these brain games to give your brain a workout:
- Practice an everyday activity… with your eyes closed! (Choose wisely. We recommend activities like getting dressed or brushing your teeth. We do not recommend activities that could be dangerous, like driving to work or cooking dinner without looking at what you are doing). [Read more →]
