The Greening of America

Greening of America with environmental sustainability? Money? Big Business?

It used to be that even the slightest mention of green would have most people assuming money was being discussed. If it was mid February, maybe St. Patrick’s day was the topic. And I’m sure we all can remember the regular commands to eat our green vegetables but how many of us thought even just a few years ago that “going green”, or “being green” would be this big and this much a part of our social consciousness? Businesses both large and small are on board. From the federal government to local communities everyone has joined the bandwagon. Education, the Internet, community organizations, and the media are invested in it. The real evidence though might be just how important being green is to Madison Ave. [Read more →]

Natural Healing, Behind the Scenes

Chris

September 10th, 2009 · Hanna Kroeger

Hanna

Hanna was a natural healer and worked hard to bring healing to those who came to see her.

Hey guys. I thought it would be fun this week to talk a little bit about the process by which some of Hanna’s formulas came into being and how her natural healing happened behind the scenes every day.

Hanna had contact with many people both through her travels where she gave lectures on health and healing and through her Peaceful Meadow Retreat, where she taught closer to home, actually, right out of her home.  Many people would seek her out when they had some kind of health issue and they were unsure what the next step was. Usually she had a ready answer for them. But not always. [Read more →]

Yoga Journal is More Than a Journal

Sara Beth

September 8th, 2009 · Healthy Living

If you have not started doing Yoga, or have done it on and off and currently in an off period like me, now is the best time to start.  Yoga is a great workout for your body and mind that I have always found very beneficial when I stay consistent.  Like any type of workout, it is important to stay consistent so that you can improve and get the most out of it.

Okay, so may be you have decided to give it a try or start doing yoga on a regular basis, but you have obstacles or more commonly known as excuses.  You could be saying “I don’t belong to a gym or yoga center, My gym doesn’t offer yoga classes, I don’t have the extra money right now, or I just feeling like staying at home.”  These could all be common excuses, but now you can learn movements, do yoga and your only expense is an inexpensive mat. Hanna Kroeger’s Sore Throat Recipe

Chris

September 4th, 2009 · Hanna Kroeger, home remedy

I hate being sick, especially since I work in the medicinal herb business.  If I am down with any cold or flu symptoms I usually get the line “I thought you were supposed to be healthy?”  Or, “Don’t you have something for that?” Well I don’t get sick very often but I do have two children and a wife who is in the child care biz. And we all know what creative disease carriers those cute little kiddos can be.

If I do find myself starting to become aware of oncoming illness, I may turn to some of the many wonderful immune strengthening herbs we make here at KHP.  But Hanna taught us that there are many other approaches we can take. Now I realize that I just blogged about immunity recently, but I want to mention one of my favorite recipes that Hanna left for us. It is a sore throat helper like no other and is simple to make with ingredients found in most kitchens. [Read more →]

Gardasil Controversy

Tom

September 3rd, 2009 · Healthy Living

As I sit at my desk reading an article about Cervical Cancer and Gardasil I expect I will know more about both when I am finished. I will admit to knowing less than I should about Cervical Cancer and only that Gardisil is a controversial vaccination from Merck. I read “The new vaccine designed to protect girls and young women from cervical cancer has a safety record that appears to be in line with that of other vaccines.”  Is that the good news or the bad news? Does Gluten Undermine Your Health?

Is gluten undermining your health?

Is gluten undermining your health?

It seems like everyone is allergic to some sort of food these days. The most common is gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. It’s estimated that at least 1 out of 133 people is gluten intolerant (Celiac Disease) or gluten sensitive.

Gluten is in almost all processed foods and can even be found in our shampoo, lotions and other beauty products like lipstick! Cutting out wheat isn’t enough if you have an allergy to gluten and we need to be careful with what we purchase. If you’re buying a product off the shelf, it needs to say ‘gluten-free’ so you can be sure you are not buying a product that contains the protein. Also, do your research to understand the difference between a gluten allergy and a gluten sensitivity. People with gluten sensitivities may not show gluten as an allergy if tested with regular allergy tests because the body isn’t producing antibodies to gluten, it just doesn’t process it well, causing inflammation in the intestines. Steroid Use Excusable?

Tom

August 20th, 2009 · Healthy Living

In a recent article, Denver Post sports writer, John Meyer asks his readers to give Boston Red Sox outfielder David Ortiz the benefit of the doubt that Ortiz may not have knowingly used steroids. He states, “We have to consider the possibility that he is telling the truth”. Okay, I think I understand why giving Mr. Ortiz the benefit of the doubt is reasonable. [Read more →]

Guard Your Body with Immune-Boosting Herbs

Chris

August 14th, 2009 · Healthy Living, Herbs for

A lot of folks feel helpless when it comes to their health and the idea of immunity building never even enters into their minds. Even those who do know they can strengthen themselves to fight off colds and other tiny assailants tend to limit themselves to the few things that they know, maybe Echinacea or Vitamin C.

While those are excellent choices, constantly using the same approach can eventually lead to patterns that will start to open up breaks in your immune defense. Here is an analogy for you. Say you are in the boxing ring and fighting against a real tough contender.  You have been able to win a few rounds by focusing on hitting your opponent with a series of right handed punches. Since this method seems to be working, you keep it up. After awhile though this tough competitor starts to expect those right hooks and starts to block those punches enabling some return shots to your own body. After suffering for a spell you decide to try to mix up your punches a little. Suddenly you once again gain the upper hand and are able to knock out the challenger to your health and well-being and exit the ring with some new strategies for the next time someone is spoiling for a fight.
