Men’s Health Month – Natural Support & Health

There’s more to men’s health than just reproductive function. Hormonal and urinary tract problems are significant, but can also contribute to a wide range of issues that affect men in all stages of life. Fortunately, men and women have for ages gathered medicinal herbs and uncovered nutritional assistance for these concerns. Take a look here for Evan’s picks for men’s health.

Saw Palmetto for Men’s Health

When most people think of men’s health, they think of the prostate gland. This organ serves to regulate urine flow and plays a critical role in male sexual response. The most common complaint is related to BPH, or benign prostatic hyperplasia. This simply means that the prostate is growing larger with age, but is not cancerous. For many men, this begins in their 40-50s, with symptoms ranging from mild difficulty urinating to severe pain and incomplete evacuations. For nearly 200 years, Saw Palmetto and its extracts have been considered an effective remedy for men suffering from this. At Hanna’s we carry a Saw Palmetto tincture, a liquid extract in a capsule, and an herbal combination, Men’s Special. The tincture and standardized extract are rich in fatty acids and phytosterols, while Men’s Special also contains corn silk and black walnut to help with urinary function.

Ginseng and Maca are two great adapotgens that support men's health.

The most significant concern beyond the prostate is what some refer to as “male menopause.” This is a period in life sometime between 50 and 65 years old where the majority of men loose the ability to produce adequate levels of testosterone. Once this occurs, energy, sex drive, and the ability to recover from physical activity are all greatly compromised. A healthy lifestyle, exercise, and proper nutrition can help delay and reduce the severity of these symptoms, but Mother Nature catches up to all of us eventually. Luckily, there is help in the form of herbal and nutritional supplements. Maca Root has been used for thousands of years in South America for countless reasons, but today we know it as a premiere hormonal balancer. It can be beneficial for men and women of all ages and is said to improve endocrine and sexual function. American and Chinese ginseng may also help balance hormones and delay the aging process. In fact, Chinese medicine says no one should use Panax Ginseng until they reach the age of 40 due to its strength and effectiveness. Many American supplement manufacturers also produce quality vitamins and combinations specific to men, such as Rainbow Light’s Men’s Once a Day, and Nature’s Plus T-Male Testosterone Boost. There are many options to help combat the hands of time. Supplementation, along with proper life choices and regular visits to your doctors, can help all of us feel young beyond our years. Great information, especially for someone like me!

I have been suffering with BPH for over two years now, and boy does my wife complain about it! I have not been able to keep my wife happy sexually and it has not been a smooth relationship between us.

I may try the Panax Ginseng. Hopefully it can at least give me the energy for a good night with my wife.
